The articles keep coming in the medical journals! The December 12,2008 issue of The FASEB Journal (The Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology) shows a clear link between periodontal disease and endothelial dysfunction. The endothelium is the inner lining of the coronary arteries.
Authors Stefania Piconi et al. sum it all up this way: "Treatment of periodontal disease results in improvements of endothelial dysfunction and reduction of the carotid intima-media thickness."
It is time to redefine periodontal disease: It is a putrid, festering infection of the mouth, the 7th independent risk factor for heart attacks!
